Fertilisation and root development in potatoes

Tuber set in potatoes is decided over a short window around flowering. If the root system is weak when that phase begins the plant cannot build enough tubers, and later fertilisation will not make up for it. Treating the soil before planting and feeding steadily through flowering therefore matters more than a large dose on any single occasion.

Dosage by stage

Before planting

Soil treatment

Strength 3 %Mix: 15 L Allgrow + 500 L water/haWatering: At least 500 L water/haFrequency: Once

Spray over the soil with a tractor sprayer. Gives the tubers a better start because the soil is treated before planting.

Before and during flowering

Active growth

Strength 2,5 %Mix: 10 L Allgrow + 400 L water/haWatering: 400 L water/haFrequency: At least every 14 days

Irrigate or spray. Supports the plant through its most active phase of development.

After flowering

Tuber formation

Strength 2,5 %Mix: 10 L Allgrow + 400 L water/haWatering: 400 L water/haFrequency: At least every 14 days

Supports tuber formation and quality through to harvest.

Across the season

50–60 litres of Allgrow per hectare per season, spread over at least 3 and up to 8 applications. Beyond that our trials showed no further yield gain.

Effect

  • More and more even tubers
  • Higher harvest quality
  • Healthier, greener foliage
  • Greater resilience to stress
